Former President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, said that the country's authorities are preparing an attack on the Orthodox Church and its property.

According to Dodon, the current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the PAS party are conducting an anti-church campaign, "which has been going on in our country for the past three years".

The politician highlighted that "Orthodoxy is the foundation of our national identity," and the Moldovan people have "no other faith and spiritual tradition".

"The Orthodox Church is the cornerstone of Moldovan statehood, the measure of our moral and ethical values," he emphasized.

According to the former president, it was unacceptable for him to approve questionable documents that “hit out morality and spiritual tradition and to which the Orthodox Church of Moldova categorically objected”.
In particular, he wrote about the ratification of the "Istanbul Convention," which talks about multiple "genders" and which several European countries have refused to ratify.

He also wrote that it was "unacceptable for us when so-called 'pride marches' take place in our capital under the enhanced police cordon", and "foreign ambassadors lead these processions and display symbols on the buildings of their embassies that promote values and ideas completely foreign to our people".

"Such gestures are a blatant interference in the affairs of a sovereign state and a demonstration of disrespect for the country's citizens," Dodon believes.

He also emphasized that "the involvement of state officials, politicians, and journalists in Church affairs is unacceptable."

In his opinion, "with the help of controlled judges, the ruling regime is preparing a direct attack on the Orthodox Church and its property."

As an example, he cited the "decision of the Appeals Chamber of Chisinau on April 5 of this year, which annulled two contracts between the Ministry of Culture of Moldova and the Moldovan Orthodox Church."

"The consequence of such a decision could be the confiscation of monastery buildings from the Church and the expulsion of monks from there," the Moldovan politician expressed his concern.

As reported, the Metropolis of the Romanian Church signed an agreement with the Ministry of Defence of Moldova.
