Believers of the Bila Tserkva Eparchy are suing the city council for the right to use the land under their churches.

In April 2023, the city authorities of Bila Tserkva illegally revoked the right to use the land from thirteen UOC parishes in the city. However, Orthodox Christians continue to hold services in their churches and defend their rights in court.

As Espreso reports, its journalists decided to investigate why UOC believers are still praying in their churches. Each religious community is challenging the local authorities' decision in court.

In each case, the appeals are at different stages. It is reported that two cases are under consideration in the first instance, while the majority are in appeal, either from the parishes or the city authorities. This was confirmed by the city council in response to a journalist’s information request.

In particular, the courts have upheld the claims of the parishes in honor of Blessed Ksenia of Petersburg, the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, but the city council has filed both appellate and cassation appeals.

As reported, the bishop of Bila Tserkva visited the UOC community in Cherniakhiv expelled from their church.
