Pat Kirill calls for dialogue with Islam in support of common commandments
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, said that in the situation at hand, religious leaders who have a special responsibility for peace and harmony in human society should actively join the struggle for peace. He said this at a meeting with Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha, Interfax reports.
"Both Christians and Muslims have great potential – human, intellectual, cultural, financial, and by joint efforts we can do a lot to make the world a better and calmer place," the patriarch believes.
He pointed out the importance of the moral factor in the life of human civilization and the consequences of society's rejection of moral norms. According to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, there are many civilizations in the world, and representatives of certain civilizational models put the struggle for human rights and freedoms at the forefront.
“But at the same time, the moral factor, the moral dimension of human life, is often not taken into account. Under the guise of supposedly protecting rights and freedoms, there is a kind of worship of a person and acceptance of man with all his passions, vices, in a sense, the justification of many passions and vices. Such a declaration on the freedom of the human person very often neglects moral factors and moral restrictions that a person needs to impose on himself in order not to follow the path of committing evil,” said Patriarch Kirill.
The Primate of the Russian Church considers it very important to have a dialogue between Christians and Muslims in support of the Divine commandments and norms shared by the followers of the two religions, which determine the parameters of human life and the limits of what is permitted for a person.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to Patriarch Kirill, Russia is to change history and push back the apocalypse.
