Kropyvnytskyi City Council urges authorities to ban UOC

On December 15, 2022, at the meeting of the 10th session of the 8th convocation of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council, deputies supported their colleague Oleksandra Tkachenko who proposed to appeal to the central authorities with a demand to ban the activity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports the City Council’s website.

"There is freedom of religion in Ukraine, but today religion is a weapon in the struggle that goes for people's minds," said MP Tkachenko.

According to her, the activities of the so-called Ukrainian Orthodox Church are blatantly anti-state and anti-Ukrainian.

"The Church has repeatedly become a platform for the propaganda of the ideas of the ‘Russian world’, cynically using believers and clerics," said the people's deputy.

The deputies of the Kropivnytsya City Council unanimously voted for the decision to appeal to the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada to adopt and sign the Law banning the UOC.

The deputies also asked the relevant departments of the Kropyvnytskyi City Council to provide data on the existence of lease or communal property use contracts between the City Council and the UOC structures. This information should be submitted for consideration at the next meeting of the session.

Earlier, the Zhytomyr Regional Council voted to ban the UOC.
