On December 2, 2019, during his first briefing as governor of the Chernovtsy region, Sergey Osachuk said that he sees his task in maintaining the special multi-confessional spirit of Bukovina, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

“As the highest official of the Chernovtsy region, my main mission is to ensure all legal opportunities and the rights of citizens of Ukraine to freedom of religion. I am sure that everyone’s path to God is a very personal matter, and my task is to preserve the special multi-confessional spirit of our Bukovina,” the head of the Regional State Administration said.

He noted that Bukovina has always been multi-confessional, but there have never been religious confrontations in this region: “Bukovina was famous for not opposing, but for the fact that people went to services to different churches but also interacted, despite who goes to which church. Therefore, my work is aimed at ensuring peace, agreement, that God should be at the center of this issue, and not some conflicts that are produced with the aim of building up confrontation,” S. Osachuk emphasized.

Commenting on the question of whether he intends to sign orders on the re-registration of religious communities, the governor replied: “Everything within the framework of the law, my powers, will be carried out. I assure you that there will be no artificial delaying,” he said.

As reported by the UOJ, earlier the deputy chairman of the Office of the President promised to help establish a dialogue between the UOC and local authorities, including the new head of the Chernovtsy RSA.
